Screening as part of the Vanguard Films 30 year retrospective at the NZ Film Archive, is Andrea Bosshard and Shane Loader’s' 1997 film 'BACKROOM TROUBLES'. This moving, shocking and frequently ironic documentary was the first to explore the taboo territory of illegal abortion in New Zealand. Highly Commended at the 1997 NZ Peace Awards, it was, however, "too hot for TV". Twelve years later controversy remains and abortion is still a divisive issue.
