Ha! I knew it.

"Reuters highlights a study following over 11,000 Canadian adults over 12 years which has found that, while being extremely underweight or overweight is bad for your longevity, a little fat adds years. During the study period - from 1994/1995 through 2006/2007 - underweight people were 70 percent more likely than people of normal weight to die, and extremely obese people were 36 percent more likely to die. But overweight individuals were 17 percent less likely to die and the relative risk for obese people was nearly the same as for people of normal weight."

There's always been controversy around this. When I was at university there were always 90% of research supporting exactly this conclusion (it's not a new piece of knowledge), but our bigotry makes us refuse to believe the evidence. So they do more studies. Doctors are kind of taught to not pay attention to the research evidence around this to a certain degree. There were similar things with regards to physed though. Our gyms are full of degreed Physeders spouting shit that they know is untrue - but marketing and $$ dictates that they continue.

And why is it still called 'overweight' then?

It's called 'overweight' cause we're controlled and exploited by the patriarcal powers of western ideals. Mags fashion tv-stars adverts...you know the drill. Cultural expectations and societal forces that tell us how to look dress and move if we want to be regarded as adequate, attractive or worthy. It is no wonder that, irrespective of fact we internalise the ideals then discipline and regulate our behaviour so as not to offend social norms. Being fat sucks. The facts are out there now hows about a phat revolution eh

look, research aside, I went shopping today and couldn't find pants. Can we tell the clothing manufacturers that i would like to be able to buy a pair of kickin pants of my desire without wanting to self-harm.
